The thing about doing such a thing is that despite how classy and elegant you feel, there is a heaviness that persists. Obviously since you are drinking alone, you are alone. By this I mean to say that it becomes very apparent that you are indeed alone. Let’s take a deeper gander at this issue. You see, generally when one is drinking wine, one is with company – for example, with family at holidays, while out for dinner with close friends, while in for dinner with close friends, while on a wine-tasting tour, etc. Therefore, to do something that you generally do with others, alone, you become very aware of how not only alone, but also how lonely you actually are. Why must you be sitting here drinking wine alone? A perfectly valid question. If I were not also doing the same thing, I might suggest that people perhaps don’t enjoy your company – which let’s face it, could actually be true. More likely - or rather more likely because I don’t like the other options – more likely, they are doing the same thing as you tonight. Sitting alone, drinking wine to forget the fact that they are alone, which only reminds them of their loneliness. Does that sound accurate to you? I agree, it doesn’t really. Hence, we come to the realization that we are alone for a reason. Whether it is because we’re not good company or not, the fact remains: we’re drinking wine, alone.
